Meet Vivian

Founder and Contributor

I am a military wife (retired), bonus mom to two adult kids, Glammy to five grandkids, a career woman, and Jesus follower since childhood. I am also a recovering perfectionist, control-freak, and workaholic. My husband calls me Cupcake and says I am “something else,” which is a subtle way of saying I over-do everything. My mom claims that I can be “a bit much,” and according to my dad, I came out of the womb talking. I guess some things never change. I still talk a lot. Storytelling, mentoring women, and sharing lessons learned are my jam.

Baby books say my name means “lively,” but I haven’t always felt lively. I wasted many years drowning in self-inflicted stress, stress-related illness, work, anxiety, frustration, and worry. Living a balanced life, with God at the helm, was not on my priority list until I had no choice but to slow down and trust Him. I guess I should have added “cancer survivor” to the list of qualities that define me.

In 2020, I rededicated my life to the Lord after a lifetime of selfish ambition. It has been a journey, but the most important thing I have learned so far is that God never intended us to live overwhelmed, hurried, and burned out. His desire is to give us an abundant life, a balanced life, which I believe requires vigilance, intention, and surrender.

At the age of fifty, I am having a blast! If I am not exploring the back roads of wine country with my husband in “Marilyn,” our 1968 C-10 pickup, I am playing at a dude ranch, cheering at a motocross race, hiking mountain trails, reading and blogging on my back patio, or watching documentaries and re-runs of Friday Night Lights in my jammies. Learning to embrace imperfection and adding fun, self-care, and rest to my life has been a game changer. Now, I can honestly say I am living up to my name!

Meet Becca

Meet Becca

Contributor

My name is Becca. I am married to my best friend and have been blessed with three children,
three granddaughters, a bonus daughter (daughter-in-law), and a bonus son (soon-to-be son-in-
law). Seventeen years ago, my husband joined the Army at the ripe old age of 30, giving me the
honorable title of “military spouse”. Life is never dull; we move a lot. So far, we have lived in
five different states, with another move in the near future.

I love to laugh and be silly. I talk excessively and am probably too loud. I often forget that I am
in my forties because, in my soul, I am much younger. I absolutely love meeting new people and
I usually make friends wherever I go. It has been said that I could go anywhere in the world and
know someone who lives there!

I also love being an Army wife. Although I have a career in health care administration, my
passion is volunteering in support of military families and communities. Military life can be
quite difficult, and it can be really lonely at times. This is why I enjoy mentoring military
spouses. I know what it is like to relocate every few years, say goodbye to friends and family,
and worry about deployments. Mentoring spouses gives me a sense of purpose. Sometimes I feel
like this is why my life ended up the way it did. I feel like I am exactly where I am meant to be.
